Teenager organised 'exceptionally violent' kidnapping in bid to steal £77k

2 months ago 25

An Abbey Wood teenager who arranged a man's kidnapping as part of a £77,000 extortion plot has been jailed. Cadnaan Ali drove his victim from London to Luton, where he had arranged for two other men to ambush the car.

The trio attacked the fourth man with weapons before keeping him hostage at addresses in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and London for four days. Ali, now aged 19, knew his victim had received a large pay-out after an accident and hatched a plan to steal it for himself.

He and his two accomplices forced the man to transfer money to various bank accounts. In total, the sum taken came to approximately £77,000.

The victim managed to escape but Ali continued to harass and threaten him into not calling the police. Detectives in Bedfordshire now believe the teenager was 'deeply involved' in gang violence.

'Ali has been deeply involved in serious violence and gang-related crimes'

Ali, of Overton Road, South East London, was convicted of kidnap, causing actual bodily harm, two charges of theft and two charges of perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced to eight years and two months in a young offender's institution

Detective Sergeant Richard Marshall of Bedfordshire Police CID, said: "This was an exceptionally violent attack, executed with weapons for financial gain. The offence clearly shows meticulous planning, and when Ali lost control of the situation, he resorted to threatening the victim in a desperate attempt to evade justice.

“The victim has shown immense courage by coming forward, and I am pleased for him. The lengthy sentence handed to Ali sends a strong message. We believe Ali has been deeply involved in serious violence and gang-related crimes, and we will continue to do everything in our power to bring such criminals to justice."
